An ethnic group living in the central western part of Nepal. The population is estimated at over 200,000. Their language belongs to the Tibeto-Burman family, and they make their living by cultivating wheat, corn, and other crops. When the Gurkha dynasty was established in Nepal, they were appeased by the Gurkhas, and during the British rule in India, they formed the core of the elite Gurkha soldiers, so today they are also called the Gurkhas.
