Corvus (Crow)

Japanese: からす座(烏座) - からすざ（英語表記）Corvus

Abbreviation: Crv. A small constellation that sits on the back of the long constellation Hydra and forms a quadrilateral. In Greek mythology, the crow was the messenger of the sun god Apollo, and was an intelligent animal with silver wings that could speak human language. Apollo was married to the Thessalian princess Coronis, but the crow accused Coronis of infidelity as an excuse for his wanderings, and Apollo killed his faithful wife with an arrow. However, when it was discovered that the crow had lied, as punishment, its feathers were black and it could only make a cawing noise.

略号Crv。長いうみへび座の背に乗り，四辺形をつくる小星座。ギリシア神話では太陽神アポロンの使いのカラスで，銀色の翼をし，人間の言葉を話す賢い動物であった。アポロンはテッサリアの王女コロニスを妻としていたが，このカラスは自分の道草のいいわけに，コロニスの不貞をいいたて，アポロンは矢で貞節な妻を殺した。しかしすべてがカラスの虚言からとわかり，以後その罰として羽色は黒く，ただカア，カアと鳴くばかりになったという。
