Urinke family

One of the noble families next to the Sekke, Seigake, and Daijin families. A family that can rise to the ranks of Konoe Shosho and Chujo, then to Councillor, Chunagon, and Dainagon. Urin is the Chinese name for the Konoe fu, and by extension, it became the name for a family of military officers who rose from Konoe Shosho to Nagon. It was gradually formed from the Heian period, and was fixed as a family status during the Edo period. There were the old families of Ogimachi, Shigenoi, Shimizudani, Ogura, Yotsutsuji, Kawabata, Ano, Hashimoto, Umezono, Nakayama, Namba, Asukai, Matsuki (Nakamikado), Jimyoin, Sono, Reizei (Kamireizei), Reizei (Shimoreizei), Shijo, Yamashina, Nishioji, Washio, Aburanokoji, Minase, Niwata, Ayanokoji, and Rokujo, as well as about 40 new families that branched off from the old families. The reason why many families made costumes and music their business is probably because of the duties of the Konoe-fu, which was responsible for the guards of honor. In the Meiji era's peerage system, many were granted the title of count.

摂家、清華家(せいがけ)、大臣家に次ぐ公家(くげ)の家格の一つ。近衛(このえ)少将、中将を経て参議、中納言(ちゅうなごん)、大納言に昇りうる家柄。羽林とは近衛府の唐名(とうみょう)であり、転じて近衛将から納言に昇る武官の家柄の称となった。平安時代から漸次形成され、江戸時代に家格として固定した。正親町(おおぎまち)、滋野井(しげのい)、清水谷(しみずだに)、小倉(おぐら)、四辻(よつつじ)、河鰭(かわばた)、阿野、橋本、梅園、中山、難波(なんば)、飛鳥井(あすかい)、松木(まつのき)（中御(なかみかど)）、持明院(じみょういん)、園、冷泉(れいぜい)（上冷泉）、冷泉（下冷泉）、四条、山科(やましな)、西大路、鷲尾(わしのお)、油小路、水無瀬(みなせ)、庭田、綾小路(あやのこうじ)、六条の旧家(きゅうけ)と、旧家から分かれた約40家の新家(しんけ)があった。装束や楽道(がくどう)を家業とする家が多いのは、儀仗(ぎじょう)を任とする近衛府の職掌によるものであろう。明治の華族制度では多くが伯爵を授けられた。
