…He entered Harvard University in 1982 and worked as the business manager of the student magazine, Harvard Lampoon (the predecessor of National Lampoon), but dropped out in 1985. In 1987, he became the editor and manager of San Francisco Examiner, which his father had bought, and achieved great success. In 1995, he moved to New York with $7.5 million in funding and bought New York Journal. He copied the newspaper methods pioneered by Pulitzer, expanded them, and poached staff with high salaries.
