Born on October 6, 1830. Became a pupil of Amano Soho in 1858, and reached 6th dan in 1867. Became the 12th Meijin in 1898, and held the title for 23 years. He taught many pupils and built the foundation for the flourishing of the world of shogi. Died on January 29, 1921. Age 91. Born in Awa (Tokushima Prefecture). Also known as Doi Kitaro.
