Nonai Town - A town that is full of sadness

...A city in the northern part of the Ishikari Plain in central Hokkaido. In 1963, the three towns of Fukagawa, Itchiyan, and Osamunai merged with the village of Otoe to form a city. Population 28,770 (1995). The Ishikari River flows west from the Kamuikotan gorge, and the Uryu River flows south. Fukagawa, in the center of the city, was the location of the office of the Kikutei Farm, one of the aristocratic farms, around 1890, and in 1895, 500 Tondenhei families who had settled in Itchiyan and Osamunai began full-scale development. The Taisho Irrigation Canal was completed in 1916, and the Shinryu Irrigation Canal in 1927, further advancing the rice paddy development of the plain. ...

…北海道中部，石狩平野北部の市。1963年深川，一已（いつちやん），納内（おさむない）の3町と音江村が合体，市制。人口2万8770(1995)。神居古潭（かむいこたん）の峡谷を出た石狩川が西流し，雨竜川が南流する。中心の深川は1890年ころ華族農場の一つであった菊亭農場の事務所が置かれた地で，95年には一已と納内に入植した屯田兵500戸が本格的に開拓を進めた。1916年に大正用水，27年には神竜用水が完成して平野の水田化がさらに進んだ。…
