(In the past, it was also called "Hashibime") [1] [Noun] ① A goddess who protects bridges. In particular, the goddess at Uji Bridge in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture, was traditionally called Uji no Hashihime. ※Kokin (905-914), Koi 4, 689 "Tonight, her clothes are stiff on the cold mat, and perhaps she is waiting for me. Uji no Hashihime (unknown author)" ② In the Edo period, this refers to street prostitutes standing by the bridge and private prostitutes at nearby teahouses. ※Haikai, Mizunajizao (1705), "Hashihime ya Fuoto to mo Sanekazura" [2] The title of the 45th volume of "The Tale of Genji". Kaoru's life spans from age 20 to October, age 22. Kaoru visits Hachi no Miya, who is retiring to Uji, with the desire to become a monk, and learns about Okimi and Naka no Kimi, and tells Niou about the mountain villa. He also learns the secret of his birth from Ben no Moto, who serves the Shogi Emperor. This is the first of the Ten Chapters of Uji.

(古くは「はしびめ」とも)[1] 〘名〙① 橋を守る女神。特に、京都府宇治市の宇治橋にいる女神を宇治の橋姫といいならわした。※古今(905‐914)恋四・六八九「さむしろに衣かたしき今宵もやわれを待つらむ宇治の橋姫〈よみ人しらず〉」② 江戸時代、橋のたもとに立つ街娼や、その近くの茶屋の私娼などをいう。※俳諧・水馴棹(1705)「橋姫や不男等にもさねかづら」[2] 「源氏物語」第四五帖の巻名。薫二〇歳から二二歳の一〇月まで。薫は出家を思う心から宇治に隠棲する八の宮を訪ね、大君と中君を知り、山荘の模様を匂宮に語る。また、大君に仕える弁のおもとから、自分の出生の秘密を知らされる。宇治十帖の第一。
