From the late Heian period onwards, the Okabe and Imaizumi clans, who belonged to the Seven Clans of Musashi, built their castles here and ruled the area. Okabe Rokuyata, who became famous in the Battle of Ichinotani between the Genpei and Taira clans, was also from here, and his grave is located at Fusaiji Temple, which he built.
