Born: February 20, 1751 in Sommersdorf
Died March 29, 1826. Heidelberg. German poet and translator. A central figure in the Göttinger Hainbund (Göttingen Garden Union). Published the Göttinger Musenalmanach (Göttingen Yearbook) from 1776 to 1780. He is famous for his pastoral poems such as Der siebzigste Geburtstag (1780) (The Seventieth Birthday) and Luise (95), but he is also highly regarded for his translations of classics such as the Odyssey (81) and the Iliad (93). These translations had a great influence on Goethe and Schiller. He also translated Shakespeare.

Died May 9, 1651. Antwerp. Flemish painter. Registered as a master in Antwerp in 1608. Afterwards, he worked in the workshop of Peter Paul Rubens. Friend of Anthony van Dyck. His bright colors and elegant, honest depictions made him popular among the upper classes. His major works include Abraham Grafeus (1602, Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Antwerp) and The Painter and His Family (1621, Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium).
