Kamezaki

Japanese:
Kamezaki
Minatomachi is a fishing village along Mikawa Bay in Chita County, Owari Province, now Handa City, Aichi Prefecture. It was called Kanzaki in the old days. The 1567 "Shoha Fujikendoki" (Records of Fuji Viewing in Shoha) states, "There is a fishing village with a wharf and more than 1,000 households, and since it is a prosperous and wealthy place, there are not a few wealthy families." Shrimp fishing was popular, and in 1722 the Owari Domain ordered the Shogunate to offer shrimp to the altar, and the town was granted shrimp fishing privileges. It was also frequently ordered to operate official ships for the Owari Domain, transporting rice, lumber, sake, and other goods to Edo. In particular, the sake brewing industry developed dramatically after the Genroku period (1688-1704), with 21 sake brewers and over 20,000 koku of rice produced in 1862, and over 40,000 barrels of sake stored in Edo in 1860. After the Meiji period, a shipping route to the opposite shore of Mikawa Bay was opened. In 1937, it became part of Handa City.
