Omi [village] - Omi
A village in Higashichikuma District, central Nagano Prefecture. Population 3,499 (1995). Located in the Chikuma Mountains, with Mt. Hijiri rising to the north and Mt. Azumaya rising to the south, and the Omi River, a tributary of the Sai River, flowing west through the center. Nearly 70% of the village area is covered by forests and fields, and flat land is limited to the banks of the Omi River, but on the southern foot of Mt. Hijiri, settlements are scattered up to an altitude of about 1,000 m, and the land is cultivated. In the early modern period, the central settlement, Omi, flourished as a post station on the Kitagoku Nishiwaki Highway, and was where the head inn was located. The main industries are agriculture, including rice farming, livestock farming, and fruit cultivation.

長野県中部,東筑摩郡の村。人口3499(1995)。筑摩山地に位置し,北縁には聖(ひじり)山,南端には四阿屋(あずまや)山がそびえ,中央を犀(さい)川支流の麻績川が西流する。村域の70%近くを山林・原野が占め,平地は麻績川沿岸に限られるが,聖山南麓では標高1000m付近まで集落が散在し,耕地化されている。中心集落の麻績は近世,北国西脇往還の宿場として栄え,本陣が置かれた。主産業は稲作,畜産,果樹栽培などの農業である。
