...The plane that contains all the hinge lines of the multiple folds that make up a single fold is called the fold axis plane (hinge plane) or simply the fold axis plane. If the fold axis is inclined, the angle between the axis and the horizontal plane is called the plunge. For the analysis of fold structures, the fold axis and fold axis plane are the most basic geometric elements, but for the aforementioned oil exploration, terms related to this are also used, since oil is lighter than water and tends to accumulate in the highest parts.
