...A salt field built in the Edo period in what is now Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture. In Shimoichi Village, Takehara, Kamo County, Aki Province, Oshingai was reclaimed under the leadership of the county magistrate Suzuki Shiroemon from February 1646 to the following year, but it was decided to convert part of it into a salt field, and two engineers were invited from Ako in Banshu to build a salt field as a trial. This was a success, so in 1650 (Keian 3), 31 houses were built along the offshore entrance of Oshingai (known as Keian no Furuhama), and in 1652 (Shoo 1), 67 new houses were added to the new Shinkai, bringing the total to 98 houses. *Some of the terminology that refers to "Daishinkai" is listed below.
