Itsukinada

Refers to the central part of the Seto Inland Sea, the waters east of the Aki Nada Sea. It is bounded by the Takanawa Peninsula in Ehime Prefecture to the east, the Geiyo Islands of Shimokamagari Island, Kamikamagari Island, Toyo Island, Osakishimo Island, and Okamura Island to the north, and the Boyo Islands to the south. Nearly in the center are Iwai Island, Yasui Island, and Koayasu Island. The water is relatively shallow, at 30 to 60 meters deep, and the seabed is flat. The surrounding islands and Takanawa Peninsula have many cliffs and few inland bays, so there are not many good ports.

瀬戸内海中央部、安芸(あき)灘の東方水域をさす。東は愛媛県高縄(たかなわ)半島、北は芸予(げいよ)諸島の下蒲刈(かまがり)島、上蒲刈島、豊(とよ)島、大崎下(おおさきしも)島、岡村島など、南は防予諸島で限られる。ほぼ中央に斎島、安居(やすい)島、小安居島などがある。水深は30～60メートルで比較的浅く、海底も平坦(へいたん)である。周辺の島々や高縄半島は断崖(だんがい)が多く、内湾が少なく、あまり良港はない。
