Pomeranian [species] (English spelling)

Japanese: ポメラニアン[種]（英語表記）Pomeranian

A toy dog that originated in Germany. Its name comes from the region of Pomerania where it originated. Its muzzle is short and pointed, and its ears are small, triangular and erect. Its ancestors were the sled dogs of Iceland and Lapland, and it most closely resembles the original form of the northern Spitz. It was in the late 19th century or early 20th century that it was miniaturized into its current form. Its distinctive feature is its abundant, long, beautiful fur that covers its entire body, especially around its neck and forechest. Although small, it is strong-willed, with its chest held out and its tail swept over its back like a fan, and it is extremely agile in its movements.

原産地がドイツの愛玩犬。名称は原産地ポメラニア(ポンメルン)地方に由来する。口吻（こうふん）は短くとがり，耳は小さい三角形で立つ。祖先はアイスランドやラップランドのそり犬で，北方系スピッツ族の原形を最もよく伝えている。現在の姿に小型化されたのは，19世紀末から20世紀初めである。特徴は全身をおおう豊富な長い美しい被毛で，とくに頸まわり，前胸部がりっぱである。小型だが気丈で，胸を張り，尾を扇のように背負い，動作は機敏そのものである。
