Japanese: 上五島[町] - かみごとう

An old town in the west of Nakadori Island in the Goto Islands, Minami Matsuura District, Nagasaki Prefecture. Aokata, in the center, prospered as the base and refuge port of the Aokata clan, who ruled Goto in the Middle Ages. It is a fishing base and also farms yellowtail. It is a transportation hub on the west coast, with shipping services to Fukue. There is an offshore oil storage base. The Aokata documents are important medieval historical materials. In August 2004, it merged with Wakamatsu Town, Niiuonome Town, Arikawa Town, and Narao Town in Minami Matsuura District to become Shinkamigoto Town in Minami Matsuura District. 55.72 ^km2 . 7,382 people (2003).

長崎県南松浦郡，五島列島中通(なかどおり)島西部の旧町。中心の青方は中世五島を支配した青方氏の根拠地，避難港として繁栄。漁業基地で，ハマチ養殖も行う。西海岸交通の中心地で，福江へ船便がある。洋上石油備蓄基地がある。青方文書は中世史料として重要。2004年８月南松浦郡若松町，新魚目町，有川町，奈良尾町と合併し，南松浦郡新上五島町となる。55.72km²。7382人（2003）。
