Shizuhatayama

Japanese: 賤機山 - しずはたやま
Shizuhatayama

It is one of the peaks of a mountain ridge that stretches north from Shizuoka Sengenjinja Shrine in Miyagasaki-cho, Aoi-ku, north of Shizuoka city. It is 171 meters above sea level. This peninsula-like mountain range is made of alkaline volcanic basalt, and on the eastern side of the range runs the Itoigawa-Shizuoka Tectonic Line, which is the western edge of the Fossa Magna, a famous geological structure in Japan. The surrounding area is rich in historical sites such as Rinzai-ji Temple, the remains of Shizukuyama Castle, Sengen Shrine, and Shizukuyama Kofun, and the mountain slopes are tea and mandarin orchards. The hiking trails and Sengen Shrine are famous cherry blossom viewing spots. The name Shizuoka comes from Shizukuyama and Shizugaoka, and in 1869 (Meiji 2), Fuchu was renamed. Take a 10-minute bus ride from Shizuoka Station to Sengen Shrine, then a 20-minute walk to the peak.
