Okura Museum of Art

Japanese: 大倉集古館 - おおくらしゅうこかん

Located in Toranomon, Minato-ku, Tokyo, this is Japan's first private art museum. It was founded in 1917 based on the collection of artworks and books collected by Okura Kihachiro and Okura Kishiro. It reopened in 1928 after the Great Kanto Earthquake, became the Okura Cultural Foundation in 1985, and continued to exist to this day after undergoing renovation of the building in 1987. Its representative collection includes the national treasures "Kokin Wakashu Preface Scroll," "Zuishin Teiki Emaki," and "Samantabhasa Bodhisattva Riding an Elephant," as well as 12 other Important Cultural Properties and 44 Important Fine Art Objects, with approximately 1,700 artworks and 35,560 books.

東京都港区虎ノ門にある日本で最初の私立美術館。大倉喜八郎，大倉喜七郎の収集による美術品，書籍のコレクションをもとに 1917年創設。関東大震災後 28年再開，60年財団法人大倉文化財団となり，62年建物の改装を経て今日に及ぶ。国宝の『古今和歌集序書巻』『随身庭騎絵巻』『普賢菩薩騎象像』は代表的なコレクションで，その他重要文化財 12点，重要美術品 44点を含む美術品約 1700点と書籍3万 5560冊を収蔵している。
