Mr. Miyoshi

A clan known as a scholar in ancient and medieval times. A descendant of the Nishigori clan, Miyoshi Sukune appears in the Shinsen Shojiroku as Miyoshi Sukune, but in the early 10th century, during the time of Kiyoyuki, he was given the surname Ason. Kiyoyuki rose to the ranks of Doctor of Literature, University Head, and Councillor of the Imperial Household, and his descendants have since taken up the professions of Myobo and Sando, but there are two branches of the clan, one of Baekje origin and one of Chinese origin. Miyoshi Yasunobu, whose mother's sister was the wet nurse of Minamoto no Yoritomo, eventually went down to the Kanto region and became the first steward of the Monchujo (Monjusho) of the Kamakura Shogunate. His descendants were divided into various clans such as Machino, Ota, Yano, Monjusho, Ino, Ichinomiya, and Fuse, and served as Monjusho stewards, Hyojoshu, and Hikitsukeshu in the Kamakura Shogunate, as well as various important positions in the Muromachi Shogunate. Many of them settled in various places, including Ota Sho in Bingo Province (Sera County, Hiroshima Prefecture), and became samurai.

古代～中世に学問の家として聞こえた氏族。錦織(にしごり)氏の後裔(こうえい)にして『新撰姓氏録(しんせんしょうじろく)』には三善宿禰(すくね)とみえるが、10世紀初頭、清行の代に至って朝臣(あそん)の姓を賜った。清行は文章博士(もんじょうはかせ)、大学頭(かみ)から参議宮内卿(さんぎくないきょう)にまで栄進し、以来その子孫は明法(みょうぼう)、算道を家職としたが、同氏には百済(くだら)系と漢系との2流があった。三善康信(やすのぶ)は母の姉が源頼朝(よりとも)の乳母であった縁から、やがて関東に下り、鎌倉幕府の初代問注所(もんちゅうじょ)執事となった。彼の子孫は町野(まちの)、大田(おおた)、矢野(やの)、問注所、飯尾(いのお)、一宮(いちのみや)、布施(ふせ)などの諸氏に分かれ、鎌倉幕府の問注所執事、評定衆(ひょうじょうしゅう)、引付衆(ひきつけしゅう)などを勤めたほか、室町幕府でも各種の要職に任じた。備後(びんご)国大田荘(しょう)（広島県世羅(せら)郡）をはじめ、各地に土着、武士化した者も少なくない。
