Software developed based on the idea of open source is called open source software (OSS), and representative examples include the operating system Linux and the office suite OpenOffice.org. Many open source software projects have communities of participating developers who discuss how to modify the source code and the procedures for releasing the software. In addition, when a company dissolves, it may make the source code of the software that was its asset publicly available, making it open source software.
