Wang Li - Ou Riki

Japanese: 王力 - おうりき

Chinese linguist. Born in Bobai, Guangxi Province. Studied at Shanghai Southern University, Tsinghua University's Institute of Chinese Studies, and other institutions, before studying in France in 1927 and earning a doctorate from the University of Paris. After returning to China in 1932, he taught at Tsinghua University, Kunming Southwestern United University, and Sun Yat-sen University, and from 1954 he became a professor at Peking University. He established the foundations of modern Chinese linguistics by actively introducing the results of modern Western linguistics into Chinese language research and clarifying the linguistic characteristics of Chinese characters. His main work is Manuscripts on the History of the Chinese Language.

中国の言語学者。広西省博白の出身。上海南方大学，清華大学国学研究院などで学び，27年，フランスに留学，パリ大学で博士号取得。32年帰国後，清華大学，昆明西南連合大学，中山大学で教え，54年以降は北京大学教授を務めた。漢語研究に西欧近代言語学の成果を積極的に導入しつつ漢語の文字の言語的特徴を明らかにすることで，現代中国言語学の基礎を確立した。主著に《漢語史稿》。
