Grand Saint Bernard (English spelling)

...For railroads, there are the Simplon Tunnel and the St. Gotthard Tunnel. For motorways, the Grand Saint Bernard highway tunnel connecting Switzerland and Italy was completed in 1964, and the Mont Blanc Tunnel, the longest in the world at the time (11.6 km), was opened between France and Italy in 1965. These have made political, economic and cultural exchanges between the Alpine countries easier, and have also strengthened the ties between European countries (Figure).
