When he accompanied Bishop Didacus of Osma to Rome, he came into contact with the spirit and movement of the Cathars (Albigensians) that had spread to southern France, and he aimed to educate them. He became an itinerant preacher of the truth of the faith, following the poverty of Christ in the Gospel.
