A publishing company, mainly focused on education-related products. Founded in 1931 by Akao Yoshio under the name Obunsha, the company launched the entrance exam magazine Juken Shunpo in 1932 (retitled Keisetsu Jidai in 1941). In 1935, Akao came up with the idea for English Basic Vocabulary (Akao's Mametan), which became a hit product. In 1942, the company changed its name to its current one. In addition to continuing its publishing activities centering on entrance exam study guides, the company also develops publications for students and the general public, as well as digital media.
