The King's Servants

…He published many collections of poems, including Thirty-Six Poems (1935) and Selected Poems (1944), which overflowed with the wild vitality of the South, using free verse forms. He also excelled in novels, such as The King's Men (1946), which won the Pulitzer Prize, depicting the psychological conflicts of people in the midst of the corruption of the Southern political world, and consistently pursued the problems of the South from an ethical and psychological perspective. As a member of the New Criticism movement, he published Essays (1958), as well as Understanding Poetry (1938) and Understanding Fiction (1943), co-authored with C. Brooks, which were highly praised as literary textbooks based on the method of New Criticism. …
