Also written as Kamado Barrier. A medieval sea customs and seaport located in Nagashima, Kaminoseki-cho, Kumage-gun, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The name Kamado is said to have come from the resemblance of the topography to a stove. The first appearance of the place name was in the mid-10th century as Kamado Mikuriya, where offerings were made, and at that time it was a base for seafolk who took advantage of the natural good harbor surrounded by the Kumage Peninsula, Sago Island, Uma Island, and Nagashima. At the end of the Heian period, the name Kamado Barrier appears as part of the land of Wakeikazuchi Shrine in Kamigamo, Kyoto, so it is believed that in the late Heian period, it became a sea customs because it was a good harbor and located in a position that controlled the Suo coastal shipping route.
