Order Spheniscus, Family Spheniscus. Total length 85-95cm. This is the second largest species after the Emperor Penguin. Its head is black, with a large orange spot on the side of its neck that is shaped like a magatama. The upper part of its chest is a beautiful orange-yellow color, while the lower part of its chest and abdomen are white. Its back is silvery-gray, with a black band between its back and abdomen. It breeds on islands from the Sub-Antarctic Ocean to the Antarctic Circle. It takes more than a year to raise its young, and even birds that are not breeding return to their breeding islands when they are molting. Penguins spend their molting time on land, not eating anything. They do not build nests, and when they lay an egg, they place it on the top of their foot, cover it with the loose skin of their abdomen, and incubate it for about 54 days. They mainly feed on fish, which they catch by diving. They have been recorded diving to a depth of 322m. They are distributed throughout the oceans of the southern part of the Southern Hemisphere all year round, but rarely venture to the coast of Antarctica.
