A politician from the Goryeo Dynasty, Korea. Known as a great general. His first name was Kang Uncheon. In 983 (the second year of King Seongjong's reign), he passed the civil service examination and became prime minister at the beginning of the reign of King Hyeonjong (1010-31). In 1018, during the third Khitan invasion of Goryeo, he became a senior marshal at the advanced age of 71 and led over 200,000 soldiers to fight off the Khitan army, annihilating almost all of them at Guju. It is said that only a few thousand of the 100,000 invading troops returned alive. He has been passed down for a long time as a hero who saved the country, and was even made into a Hangeul novel at the end of the Joseon Dynasty.

朝鮮，高麗の政治家。名将として知られる。初名，姜殷川。983年(成宗2)，科挙に合格し，顕宗代(1010‐31)の初めに宰相となった。1018年，高麗に対する契丹の第3次侵略の際，71歳の高齢で上元帥となり，20万余の兵を率いて契丹軍を迎え撃ち，亀州においてほとんど全滅させた。侵略軍10万のうち，生きて帰れた者はわずか数千人にすぎなかったという。救国の英雄として永く語りつがれ，李朝末期にはハングル小説にもなった。
