Oymyakon - Oymyakon (English spelling) Оймякон／Oymyakon

A village in the Sakha Republic in the eastern part of the Russian Federation. It is located in the Oymyakon Basin on the upstream coast of the Indigirka River. It is 600 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by high mountain ranges except in the north, and in winter, cold air masses stagnate in this region. With no wind and good weather, there is a lot of radiation heat at night, and the cold air accumulates in the basin, making it extremely cold. Along with Verkhoyansk, it is called the coldest place in the Northern Hemisphere. In 1933, a temperature of about minus 68 degrees Celsius was recorded.

ロシア連邦東部、サハ共和国の村。インディギルカ川上流沿岸のオイミャコン盆地に位置する。標高600メートル。北方を除いて周囲を高い山脈に囲まれ、冬季はこの地方に寒気団が停滞し、無風好天で夜は輻射(ふくしゃ)熱の放散が多く、盆地に冷気がたまるので極度に寒冷となり、ベルホヤンスクとともに北半球の寒極といわれる。1933年に零下約68℃が記録された。
