In Yunohama, Toyoura Village, Nishitagawa County, Uzen, sardine drift nets were introduced from Echigo during the Tenmei era (1781-89), but it is said that they were not generally used until the early Meiji period. In Ineura, Yosa County, Tango, this fishing was called Oioki and is said to have started in the early Meiji period, and it seems that this fishing was already quite popular at least by the late Edo period along the coasts of Kaga, Noto, and Etchu.
