...There have been countless inventions and inventions for the former. In the 19th century, chimney sweeps were a business in which children covered their heads with a cloth and went inside chimneys (which had scaffolding) to remove soot. In England, the government banned children under the age of 16 from working in the industry in 1875, and raised the age to 21 in 1895.

In Japan, foreign travelers at the end of the Edo period pointed out that there were no chimneys on the roofs, but with the introduction of Western civilization, chimneys began to appear, and in the early Meiji period, the two most commonly used words were "smoke pipe" and "chimney."
