...By stirring the electrolyte, rotating the electrode at a constant speed, or moving the electrolyte with a pump, the amount of the substance to be electrolyzed that diffuses to the electrode increases, which can increase the sensitivity of the analysis and the yield of synthesis by electrolysis, and is sometimes called convection voltammetry. The method of concentrating the substance to be electrolyzed by electrolytic deposition on the electrode and then applying a reverse potential to record the voltammogram is called stripping voltammetry (Figure 2-f). An electrode that uses a mercury drop suspended at the end of a platinum or glass capillary tube is called a hanging mercury drop electrode, and the method of electrolytically depositing metal on this electrode to form an amalgam and recording a stripping voltammogram is used as an ultramicroanalysis method because it can quantify trace amounts (for example, 10 ^-9 to 10 ^-10 mol/l) of metal ions such as Pb ²⁺ and Cd ²⁺ . ...
