Electronic Surveillance

…Wiretapping is the process of tapping telephone lines using mechanical methods. In addition to the case of secretly listening in on conversations heard outside the room, or of using mechanical devices to intercept and record conversations (electronic surveillance or bugging), in a broad sense, wiretapping can also include cases where one party records a conversation without the other party's permission, or where a third party listens to and records a conversation with the consent of one party. Even if the speaker (or the person speaking) does not give permission, the speaker himself may be considered to have abandoned the confidentiality of the content, and conversely, not all cases are legal just because one of the parties knows about it.
