...Adult males are aggressive and even drive away their natural enemies, lions. The red buffalo S. nanus (English name forest buffalo), which lives in pairs or small groups in the forests of tropical Africa, is small, 1 to 1.4 meters tall at the shoulder, weighs 200 to 500 kg, and has a reddish-brown body, although older males sometimes turn blackish-brown. There are intermediate forms between the two, so it is sometimes considered a subspecies.
