Epizone - epitai (English spelling)

It is the upper of three depth zones of metamorphism, located below the weathered and cemented zones. Metamorphism in this zone is controlled by moderate temperatures, low hydrostatic pressure and high stresses. Rocks from this type of metamorphism are characterized by an abundance of hydrous silicate minerals [Becke: 1903, Grubenmann & Niggli: 1924].
