Along with direct metaphors (simile), metaphors are one of the most representative methods of simile. They are also called allegories. While a direct metaphor would be "He is a man like a demon," a metaphor does not use words (like) that externally indicate that it is a metaphor, but says "He is a demon." They are more common than direct metaphors in idiomatic expressions and Western poetry. This is because they have a stronger ability to evoke images.
