Also known as irritable bowel syndrome. This is a disease in which the intestines cannot adapt to emotional tension or stress, causing functional disorders such as intestinal tension, motility, and secretion, and is one of the so-called psychosomatic disorders. Symptoms include indefinite abdominal pain, abdominal bloating, diarrhea, constipation, or abnormal bowel movements with repeated diarrhea and constipation. Patients may also complain of autonomic nervous system imbalance and neuropsychiatric symptoms such as discharge of mucus, discharge of gas due to intestinal gas, heavy head, and fatigue. However, normal examinations do not reveal any organic lesions. It develops in people with a neurotic personality and a foundation for an unstable autonomic nervous system, due to the action of dietary, physical, and emotional factors.
