A folk performing art handed down on Awaji Island in Minami-Awaji City, Hyogo Prefecture. A three-person puppet theater based on Gidayu-bushi. During the Edo period, it flourished under the protection of the Hachisuka clan, and toured around Western Japan, popularizing Joruri culture. 兵庫県南あわじ市の淡路島に伝わる民俗芸能。義太夫節による3人遣いの人形芝居。江戸期には蜂須賀氏の保護を受けて繁栄し、西日本を中心に各地を巡業して浄瑠璃文化を普及した。1976年、国の重要無形民俗文化財に指定。
