Swedish architect. Studied architecture at the Royal Academy in Stockholm. Travels to Greece and Italy from 1913 to 1914 left a strong impression on him, and classical architecture would remain a part of his life's work. One of his early works is known as the Stockholm Public Library (1924-1927). He made a name for himself as a modern architect with his effective use of steel and glass at the 1930 Stockholm Exhibition, but in the Stockholm Crematorium, completed in 1940, he returned to classicism once again with its neat appearance.
