… The birth of the Japanese advertising industry was at roughly the same time as the rise of Japanese newspapers. It is said that the Naigai Yotatsu Kaisha was founded in 1873 and began as an advertising agency as part of its business. With the support of Fukuzawa Yukichi, Eto Naozumi and others began a full-scale advertising agency business in Kyobashi, Tokyo, and in 1886, Kohodo specialized in buying and selling advertising space in newspapers and other media. After that, in 1888, Kokokusha and Sanseisha were founded, in 1990, Mannensha in 1990, Hakuhodo in 1995, and Nippon Advertising Co., Ltd. (the precursor to Dentsu) in 1901. However, unlike today's advertising industry, all of them were merely space brokers. …

…　日本の広告業の誕生は日本の新聞勃興期とほぼ同じ時期であり，1873年内外用達会社が創立され，その業務の一環として広告取次などを行ったのが始まりといわれる。本格的には福沢諭吉の支援で江藤直純らが東京の京橋に広告取次業を開始したもので，86年弘報堂として新聞などの広告スペースの売買を専業とした。その後88年には広告社，三成社，90年には万年社，95年博報堂，1901年には日本広告株式会社(電通の前身)が創立されたが，いずれも今日の広告業とは異なり，スペースブローカーにすぎなかった。…
