Badgers were called brocks (or blok in Danish) before the 18th century, and there were so many of them that many place names were derived from badgers, including the British place name Brockholes. In Europe, badgers are considered a symbol of common people who love the home and peace, and there is a German folk tale about a badger who reforms a sly fox through sincerity.
