Japanese: 循環器科 - じゅんかんきか（英語表記）cardiovasology

It is also called cardiology. It was differentiated as a specialized branch of internal medicine in the 1900s, and has come to be recognized as a university course, a medical department in hospitals, and a doctor's specialty. In Japan, the Japanese Circulation Society was formed in 1960, and courses were established at Kyushu University and other universities in 1985. All diseases of the heart and vascular system are treated, and many of the most common adult diseases, such as high blood pressure and arteriosclerosis, are treated, and many of these are chronic diseases, so it is one of the medical departments with a large number of patients.

循環器内科ともいう。1900年代に入って内科のなかの一専門分科として分化したもので，大学の講座，病院の診療科目，医師の専門領域の一つとして認められるようになった。日本でも35年から循環器学会が組織され，60年から九州大学をはじめとして講座が設置されるようになった。心臓･脈管系のあらゆる疾患を診療の対象としており，対象疾患に高血圧や動脈硬化など，成人病として最も頻度の高い疾患が多く，かつ慢性疾患が多いので，患者の数も多い診療科の一つである。
