A general term for arthropods belonging to the Charontidae family, which, together with the Charontidae family, form an order in the class Arachnida, the Amastigi, called the Amblypygia. The first walking leg is extremely elongated and functions as an antenna when walking. It was named after its overall shape, which resembles a crab. It is 8-25 mm long, and has suckers called disks at the ends of the second to fourth walking legs, allowing it to walk on vertical surfaces and ceilings. It is found in Central America and its neighboring areas, Southeast Asia, India, Sri Lanka, southern Africa, and the southern islands of the Pacific Ocean, but is not found in Japan.
