Mud Tower

〘Noun〙 Buddhist term. A mud tower built to pray for the eradication of sins and long life. It is common to pour perfumed clay into a mold to create a Gorinto or a three-story pagoda, and place the seed Aji of Dainichi Nyorai under the tower. 〘名〙 仏語。罪障の消滅や長寿を願って造立された泥土製の塔。香水で浄めた土を型にいれて、五輪塔、三重塔などに造り、塔下に大日如来の種子阿字を納めるのが普通。密教系の真言・天台宗などで行なわれる。※観智院本三宝絵（984）下「泥塔つくるべき事を説たまふ」
