Okumumeo - Okumumeo

Social activist. Born in Fukui Prefecture. Real name Oku Mumeo. After graduating from Japan Women's University, she showed an interest in social issues from an early age, including working as a live-in female factory worker, and in 1920 (Taisho 9), she participated in the establishment of the New Women's Association and promoted the women's suffrage movement. However, after reflecting on her own actions, she began to place more importance on issues affecting women's lives, and became involved in editing women's magazines, the consumer union movement, and the movement to establish women's divisions for industrial unions, and led the women's settlement movement until Japan was defeated in the war. After the war, she was elected to the House of Councillors in 1947 (Showa 22), and served three terms thereafter. During this time, she formed the Housewives' Association in 1948, and led the consumer movement as chairperson of the "Oshamoji no Shufuren."

社会運動家。福井県に生まれる。本名奥梅尾(むめを)。日本女子大学卒業後、女工として住み込むなど早くから社会問題に関心を示し、1920年（大正9）には新婦人協会の設立に参加、婦人参政権運動を推進した。しかし、運動への反省から、その後は婦人の生活問題を重視するようになり、婦人雑誌の編集、消費組合運動、産業組合婦人部の設立運動などに従事、さらに敗戦まで婦人セツルメント運動を主導した。戦後は1947年（昭和22）参議院議員に当選、以後3期参議院議員。この間、1948年には主婦連合会を結成、「おしゃもじの主婦連」の会長として、消費者運動を主導した。
