Reishia bronni (English name)
A gastropod shell of the Muricidae family (illustration). The shell can reach 6cm in height and 4cm in width, but is usually around 4cm in height. It is greyish-yellowish white with black spots, and is sturdy and thick. It has six layers, with two thick ribs on each layer and four on the larger body layers, and there are strong, large, knob-like nodes on the ribs. It is named after the shape that resembles the fruit of the lychee plant. The shell opening is wide and large, and the inside is yellow-orange. The outer edge is curved according to the ribs on the shell surface. The lid is leathery. It is found south of the Boso Peninsula (Pacific Ocean side) and Oga Peninsula (Sea of ​​Japan side) and up to Taiwan, where it lives on rocky reefs from the intertidal zone to a depth of 20m.
