…A garrison was a military unit of the former Japanese Army permanently stationed in one place, and the military unit was responsible for guarding the area (the name of the area was given, for example, Sendai Garrison), monitoring the order, military discipline, and public morals of the Army, and protecting buildings and other structures belonging to the Army. The law that regulated garrison duty was the Garrison Ordinance (Imperial Decree of May 1881), which was completely revised in 1910 and renamed the Garrison Order, and at the same time the Garrison Duty Order, which specified the details, was also established and remained in effect until its abolition on November 30, 1945. According to the Garrison Order, the most senior of the military units (excluding the military police, etc.) stationed in that area became the garrison commander, and he oversaw operations under the supervision of the army commander and division commander. …
