A port in Okinawa Prefecture. It is located in the northern part of Okinawa Island, on the eastern side of the Motobu Peninsula. Before the war, it developed as a shipping port for brown sugar. It was returned to Japan in May 1972 when Okinawa was returned to the mainland. The port administrator is Okinawa Prefecture. It is an important port (designated in May 1972).
