...It is widely distributed in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, and is also known from Korea and China. Until 1957, the family Isoetes was thought to consist only of the genus Isoetes , but it was discovered that the genus Stylites , which is distinct from Isoetes in that its stems do not form tubers but grow long and upright, and are bifurcated, is found in the Andes Mountains of Peru in South America. However, intermediate species between the two genera are known from Colombia, and some people question whether Stylites should be considered an independent genus.
