〘Noun〙 A border made of brocade . Also, tatami mats and rugs made with this border. The finest quality tatami mats and rugs were originally used exclusively for the Emperor, and later for seating for retired emperors, Crown Princes, princes, and regents, as well as for the inner sanctuaries of shrines. 〘名〙 繧繝錦の縁(へり)。また、その縁を用いた畳やしとね。畳、しとねの最上の品で、もとはもっぱら天皇に、後に上皇、東宮、親王、摂関家の座具、神社の内陣などにも用いられた。うんげん。うげんべり。うんげいべり。うげんばし。※西大寺資財流記帳‐宝亀一一年(780)「敷褥一条 表緋地錦・裏浅緑・雲間縁」
